Akosua Agyapong Advocates for Sex Before Marriage

 

Veteran Ghanaian highlife musician and TV personality Akosua Agyapong has sparked public debate after boldly advocating for sex before marriage as a necessary step to ensuring marital compatibility and long-term happiness.

Speaking on JoyPrime on April 10, 2025, the outspoken entertainer stressed that intimacy before marriage allows couples to understand each other’s sexual preferences and helps prevent issues that often lead to divorce or infidelity.

For me, sex before marriage is very important. I say that for a reason we were all brought up differently, Akosua Agyapong explained. You can go into marriage and be miserable for the rest of your life if you don’t know the one you said ‘I do’ to.”

She went on to present a hypothetical example, questioning how one would react if after a lavish wedding ceremony they discovered that their partner could not perform sexually.

Imagine I get married which says for better for worse or till death do us part and after the expensive wedding I got to know that my husband can’t erect or has a smaller manhood—how do I stay in the marriage? she asked.

According to Akosua having such intimate knowledge beforehand helps couples make informed decisions and potentially prevents future disappointments or heartbreak.

She also weighed in on the moral and religious aspect of the conversation stating that while many Christians frown upon premarital sex there’s a need for honest discussions about sexuality in relationships. In her view, adultery is a greater sin than fornication.

Adultery is more serious than fornication because fornication is when two consenting adults agree to have sex, she stated. Sometimes we make Christianity so hard to worship God.

Her comments have ignited mixed reactions on social media and among religious groups with some praising her honesty and others expressing concern about the moral implications.
