Agya Koo Refutes Claims of Being Unsupportive of Daughter’s Music Career
Veteran Ghanaian actor and musician Agya Koo has strongly denied allegations made by his daughter Maame Brago that he has not been supportive of her ambition to pursue a music career. The Kumawood legend in an interview with One Ghana TV clarified that his stance was never about suppressing her dreams but rather ensuring that she had a solid educational foundation before entering the entertainment industry.
According to YEN Ghana Agya Koo explained his position saying:
It is not like I do not support her because she is a girl. Also, I wanted her to go to school. My child is very good when it comes to speaking English.
The actor disclosed that he had been aware of his daughter’s interest in music for years and had even confronted her mother about it. However, he was displeased to learn that his ex-wife had been secretly taking Maame Brago to music events and interviews without his knowledge.
She started a long time ago so when I got the information, I told her mother that it was something I did not like, Agya Koo revealed.
Despite his reservations he emphasized that he never outright rejected Brago’s dreams but wanted her to prioritize her education before focusing on music.
Brago, in a 2024 interview with blogger De God Son alleged that her stepfather had been more supportive of her music career than her biological father. Her claims sparked backlash against Agya Koo, with critics accusing him of failing to support his daughter’s passion.
However, the actor insists that his only concern was her education. He noted that Brago is turning 17 soon and believes she should complete her schooling with distinction before fully committing to a music career.
In response to the controversy Agya Koo revealed that he has been actively involved in his daughter’s academic journey. He claimed that he had even been in constant communication with her teachers to explore additional subjects that could enhance her education. However, he alleged that her mother had opposed his efforts.
The veteran actor stressed that he is not against his daughter pursuing music but wants her to be well-prepared for success. He expressed disappointment that Brago did not approach him directly for mentorship, stating that he could have helped her navigate the music industry effectively given his own experience as an entertainer.
Agya Koo’s response seeks to set the record straight regarding his relationship with Maame Brago and her aspirations. While the controversy has drawn mixed reactions from the public, the actor remains firm in his belief that education should come first before entertainment. His message is clear—he supports his daughter’s dreams but wants her to be equipped with the right tools for long-term success.
