Abossey Okai Spare Parts Association Meets Nigerian Retailers Over Market Regulations

The leadership of the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association, led by its Chairman, Hon. Henry Okyere Jnr, held a peaceful closed-door meeting today with representatives of Nigerian nationals engaged in retail business within the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Market in Accra, Ghana.
In an interview with mrwoode.com, the Association’s Communications Director Mr. Benjamin Takyi Addo clarified the purpose of the meeting emphasizing that the Association is not attempting to expel Nigerians from Ghana. Instead, he said the focus is on ensuring compliance with Ghana’s trade laws.
According to Mr. Takyi Addo, the Association is urging all foreign nationals including Nigerians to operate strictly within the scope of the law by engaging in wholesale trade only, as the law prohibits foreigners from engaging in retail business in the country.
He further stated that any Ghanaian who supports or facilitates illegal retail operations by foreigners is also breaking the law and will not be spared.
Mr. Takyi Addo also raised concerns about reports of some Ghanaians assisting Nigerian nationals in entering fake marriages as a means to gain legal status. He warned that such acts are illegal and urged those involved to desist immediately.
The Association announced that a follow-up meeting will be held in two weeks to continue discussions with the Nigerian traders operating in the market. The aim is to ensure that all parties understand and abide by Ghana’s trade and immigration laws to promote peaceful coexistence and economic order.
