Sam George Denies Allegations of Watching Inappropriate Content in Parliament.
TThe Minister-designate for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, has strongly denied allegations that he was caught watching inappropriate content on the floor of Parliament. The allegations, which stem from a photo circulating on social media, have been described by the MP as a deliberate attempt to tarnish his image.
In response to the viral image, Sam George took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to dismiss the claims, stating that the image was fake and part of a larger scheme by his political opponents. He asserted that members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) are attempting to discredit him following his nomination for the ministerial position.
“It is clear to me that the NPP is so hurt by my nomination as Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations and would stop at nothing to fight it. After failing to mobilize their own Caucus in Parliament to vote against my nomination, they have resorted to a smear campaign and cheap lies with fake photos,” Sam George wrote.
The controversy escalated when Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Member of Parliament for Damongo, referenced the allegations on the floor of Parliament. He cautioned that as an elder of the Perez Chapel and a self-proclaimed advocate of Christian values, Sam George should be mindful of his actions, especially during serious parliamentary proceedings.
“The Honourable Sam George, as an Elder of the Perez Chapel, not just a member but an elder, and as somebody who espouses his Christian values, should also be mindful of what he watches when he is in Parliament. He should be mindful of that as well, especially when serious business is being conducted in the House,” Abu Jinapor stated.
However, Sam George remains unfazed by the accusations, maintaining that they are part of a wider campaign to undermine his credibility. He emphasized that his Ministry will take steps to address the growing issue of misinformation and fake news in Ghana.
“I can assure them that the days of misinformation and cheap fabricated lies are coming to an end. The Ministry would tighten regulations on such illegal conduct of misinformation and disinformation in the coming weeks and sanitize our media space,” he added.
The circulation of fake images and misinformation has become a major challenge in the digital space, especially in Ghana’s political landscape. As the newly appointed Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Sam George has vowed to take action to combat such activities and ensure a more responsible media environment.
The authenticity of the alleged image remains unverified, and there has been no official confirmation from Parliament regarding the matter. Meanwhile, supporters of Sam George continue to rally behind him, calling the allegations a politically motivated attack meant to distract from his ministerial appointment.
