Kojo Oppong Nkrumah Addresses Misconceptions on Saglemi Housing Project.
In a recent interview on Neat FM’s morning show, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the former Minister for Works and Housing under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, addressed allegations surrounding the Saglemi Housing Project. He emphasized that the NPP government did not sell the project to private developers, countering claims made by political opponents.
Oppong Nkrumah explained that the government engaged private developers to invest in the completion of the housing units. Upon completion, these developers would sell the houses, with proceeds shared between the developers and the government. This strategy was designed to ensure the project’s completion without imposing additional financial burdens on the state.
The former minister expressed concern over misinformation propagated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), suggesting that the NPP had sold the project to private developers. He clarified that such claims were misleading and politically motivated, aiming to tarnish the NPP’s reputation.
The Saglemi Housing Project comprises 5,000 housing units, intended to accommodate approximately 20,000 individuals. Oppong Nkrumah highlighted that an estimated investment of hundreds of millions of dollars was required to provide essential amenities such as electricity, water, sewage systems, and the full completion of the houses.
Oppong Nkrumah assured the public that all activities related to the project were conducted transparently. He emphasized that media outlets were invited to cover significant developments, ensuring that the process remained open and accountable.
The former minister’s clarifications aim to dispel misconceptions and reaffirm the government’s commitment to completing the Saglemi Housing Project through strategic partnerships with private developers, ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the process.
