Former First Lady, Ernestina Naadu Mills, has paid a courtesy visit to President John Dramani Mahama and his wife, Lordina Mahama, at their residence in Accra. Her visit was to personally congratulate President Mahama on his victory in the December 2024 general election and his return to the highest office of the land.

Mrs. Naadu Mills’ gesture is a testament to the mutual respect and deep connection she shares with the Mahama family, built over years of shared service to Ghana.

Mrs. Naadu Mills and President Mahama have a unique history stemming from their time in public service. During the presidency of her late husband, John Evans Atta Mills, from January 7, 2009, to July 24, 2012, John Mahama served as the Vice President. This close working relationship between the two families deepened after the sudden passing of President Mills on July 24, 2012.

Following the tragic event, John Mahama was sworn in as President and went on to secure a full four-year term after winning the December 2012 elections. However, his political journey saw a significant twist when he lost the December 2016 elections to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and handed over power in January 2017.

After eight years in opposition, Mahama made history by staging a remarkable comeback, winning the December 2024 general election. He was sworn in for his second term on January 7, 2025, a feat that solidified his resilience and political legacy.

Mrs. Naadu Mills’ visit to the Mahama residence is a reflection of her admiration for the Mahama family and her acknowledgment of their unwavering commitment to Ghana. While congratulating President Mahama, she praised his resilience and determination, which ultimately led to his historic return to power.

During the visit, President Mahama’s son, Sharaf Mahama, warmly welcomed Mrs. Mills and expressed gratitude for her support. The cordial interaction highlighted the close bond between the two families, rooted in their shared dedication to public service.

Mrs. Naadu Mills’ visit serves as a reminder of the strong relationships forged among leaders who have dedicated their lives to serving Ghana. Her gesture of congratulations to President Mahama not only underscores her respect for his leadership but also reflects the values of unity and mutual support among Ghana’s political and social elite.

The meeting between Mrs. Mills and the Mahama family is a symbol of the enduring legacy of leadership and service to Ghana, marking another chapter in the nation’s history.

As Ghana embarks on a new chapter under President Mahama’s leadership, moments like these remind citizens of the importance of unity and collaboration in building a brighter future for the country.
