Mr Woode the host of MR WOODE STUDIOS interviewed JOHNSON GBAGBO JNR who is the Deputy Manager of gas at NATIONAL PETROLEUM AUTHORITY (NPA) on the Dangers and Health risks associated with the use of firewood and charcoal and Promotes Efficient LP Gas Use
In a recent interview by Mr Woode of mr woode Studios interviewed Johnson Gbagbo Jnr, the Deputy Manager in charge of gas at the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), highlighted the dangers and health risks associated with the use of firewood and charcoal for cooking. He explained that under the NPA Act 2005 (Act 691), the authority has the mandate to oversee, regulate, and monitor activities in Ghana’s petroleum downstream industry.
Gbagbo Jnr emphasized the call for decarbonization due to climate change and its effects. As Ghana’s population grows, reliance on firewood and charcoal increases, further contributing to global warming through carbon dioxide emissions and particulate matter. He also noted that the use of firewood and charcoal has harmful health effects such as coughing, eye irritation, and difficulty sleeping etc.
To address these issues, the NPA encourages the use of LP gas for cooking. The introduction of the Cylinder Recirculation Model (CRM) ensures the safe and accessible distribution of LP gas across the country. Under this model, cylinders will be filled at automated plants and exchanged at designated points. This policy not only enhances safety but also creates job opportunities.
Gbagbo Jnr further educated the public on safety tips for using LP gas effectively.
