Concerned Ghanaians Protest at Nigerian Embassy in Accra Over Attacks on Ghanaian Businessmen in Nigeria

A group of concerned Ghanaians staged a peaceful protest at the Nigerian Embassy in Accra to express their dissatisfaction over what they describe as repeated attacks on Ghanaian businessmen operating in Nigeria.

The protest which took place at the premises of the Nigerian High Commission, was led by Mr. James Clarke the leader of the group. According to Mr. Clarke there have been numerous instances where Ghanaians who have legally established businesses in Nigeria have been assaulted by Nigerian citizens and in some cases by the Nigerian Police.

He cited a recent example involving Mr. Essien Jonah a Ghanaian contractor who has invested significantly in the construction sector in Nigeria. Mr. Jonah according to the group was allegedly attacked by both Nigerian citizens and officers from the Nigerian Police while going about his legitimate business.

Mr. Clarke emphasized that Ghana has maintained a cordial relationship with Nigerians doing business in Ghana and the same level of hospitality and protection should be extended to Ghanaians in Nigeria. He stressed that the group has gathered credible video and photographic evidence of some of the attacks, which they are ready to share with the appropriate authorities for further investigation.

The group attempted to present a petition directly to the Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana however the High Commissioner was unavailable at the time. The petition was received on his behalf by Mr. Pwajok Dalyop an official at the Nigerian High Commission.

The group is calling on both the Nigerian and Ghanaian governments to engage diplomatically to resolve the situation and ensure the safety of Ghanaian citizens and their businesses in Nigeria.

The protest remained peaceful, and the group has expressed hope that their petition will prompt a swift response and meaningful action to address their concerns.
