MP for Upper Denkyira West Raises Concern Over Road Construction Delays Due to Illegal Mining
The Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira West Hon. Rudolf Gyampah has expressed deep concern over the delay in the construction of the road linking Dunkwa-On-Offin to Denkyira Gyaman. According to the MP the journey which should ordinarily take only 15 minutes by car now takes over an hour due to the poor condition of the road.
Hon. Gyampah made this statement on the floor of Parliament during a session where the Minister for Roads and Highways was providing updates on various road projects across the country including the Dunkwa-On-Offin to Denkyira Gyaman stretch.
He noted that although the road is currently under construction the activities of illegal miners in the area are significantly hindering the progress of the contractor. The illegal mining operations commonly referred to as galamsey have not only damaged parts of the road but are also creating unsafe working conditions for the construction team.
In response to this challenge the MP revealed that he has engaged the chiefs and opinion leaders in the affected communities to help sensitize and advise the youth and residents to desist from illegal mining activities especially along the construction corridor.
Hon. Gyampah emphasized that improved road infrastructure is vital for the economic development of the constituency and the wellbeing of its people. He appealed to all stakeholders to cooperate with the government and the contractors to ensure the timely completion of the road.
The improvement of the Dunkwa-On-Offin to Denkyira Gyaman road is expected to boost transportation, ease the movement of goods and people, and enhance access to health, education and other essential services in the area.
