Unsafe Transformer Poses Danger to Residents and Schoolchildren at Malaam Bola Road
Residents of Malaam Bola Road in Accra have raised serious concerns over the dangerous positioning of a transformer belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). The transformer which is located just a few meters from Agape Basic School and close to a compound house with about 20 tenants poses a significant safety risk to both residents and schoolchildren.
According to mrwoode.com the transformer has been placed along the busy stretch between Bola Road Junction and Last Stop an area where many people walk daily. More alarming is the fact that there is no protective fence or barrier around the transformer leaving it fully exposed and within easy reach of passersby.
In addition to its proximity to the residential compound the transformer is also surrounded by about 10 container shops where traders operate throughout the day. Residents fear that any electrical fault explosion or spark from the transformer could lead to a serious accident potentially harming dozens of people including children attending Agape Basic School nearby.
This is a disaster waiting to happen, said one concerned resident. We see schoolchildren passing here every morning and afternoon. The transformer is open and anyone can touch it. What if something goes wrong?
Several community members are calling on the Electricity Company of Ghana and relevant authorities to relocate the transformer immediately or at least construct a protective fence around it to prevent contact and ensure public safety.
They also urged the Municipal Assembly and NADMO to inspect the area and ensure that proper safety measures are put in place before a preventable tragedy occurs.
We don’t want to wait for someone to get electrocuted or for a fire to break out before action is taken, a shop owner added. Lives are at risk here.
As of now there has been no official response from ECG. However residents remain hopeful that the attention of the media and the general public will prompt quick action to safeguard lives in the area.
Safety must always come first and authorities are being urged to treat this issue as an emergency before it leads to a fatal accident.
