EPA Boss Professor Ama Browne Klutse Enstooled as Development Queen of Ketu North
In a surprise but well-deserved honour the Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Professor Ama Browne Klutse has been enstooled as a Development Queen in the Ketu North Municipality. She was given the title Mama Dzradudo I which translates to “Mother of Environmental Purity, by the Chiefs and Queenmothers of the area.
The colourful ceremony took place on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, during the official commissioning of the new EPA District Office in Dzodze the capital of Ketu North. The traditional leaders explained that the honour was in recognition of Professor Klutse’s outstanding commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development in the municipality and beyond.
During the ceremony, the Paramount Chief and other traditional leaders praised Professor Klutse for not only advocating green policies but also taking real action that has directly improved lives in Ketu North. Her contributions include:
• Promoting proper plastic waste management,
• Empowering the youth to pursue environmental careers,
• Supporting sustainable agriculture through eco-friendly practices.
We have not just seen her speak; we have seen her work. She is not a leader in Accra who only sends messages she comes to the ground, interacts with our people, and is transforming this land,” an elder proudly stated during the installation rites.
Professor Klutse, visibly emotional and humbled by the recognition, expressed her deep appreciation to the Chiefs Queenmothers, and people of Ketu North. She promised to serve the area with dedication, using her new role to champion local development and environmental responsibility.
This honour humbles me greatly. I accept it not for myself alone, but for all those at the EPA who are working tirelessly to protect our environment. I promise to be not just a Queen in name, but in service and action, she said.
She outlined key areas she will focus on as Mama Dzradudo I, including:
• Environmental education campaigns in schools,
• Community recycling programs to reduce plastic pollution,
• Tree planting projects with local farmers and schools,
• Empowering women and youth to start eco-friendly businesses.
The installation was witnessed by several dignitaries, including Hon. Eric Edem Agbana, Member of Parliament for Ketu North. He commended the EPA for opening a district office in the area and praised Professor Klutse for her leadership.
This is a new chapter for Ketu North, the MP remarked. We now have a homegrown champion in Mama Dzradudo I who will help rally the people for development and environmental responsibility.
The ceremony ended on a vibrant note, with traditional drumming, dancing, and a symbolic tree-planting exercise led by Professor Klutse herself. The event marked not just the launch of the EPA office, but the beginning of a greener and more sustainable future for Ketu North.
With her new traditional title, Professor Klutse is expected to continue inspiring positive change combining environmental science, community leadership and cultural heritage to promote development at both the local and national levels.
