Ayisi Reflects on His Long Journey to Recognition After Winning Record of the Year at 2025 TGMA
Ghanaian musician Ayisi formerly known as A.I. is finally getting the recognition many believe he has long deserved. Born Emmanuel Kwadwo Oware, Ayisi recently opened up about the slow but purposeful pace of his music career following his win at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) where he took home the coveted Record of the Year award.
In an interview with Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime Ayisi shared the emotional and philosophical journey behind his rise in the industry. Despite his early breakout hit Grind in 2016 which captured the attention of music lovers nationwide, Ayisi’s follow up projects didn’t receive the same level of mainstream attention. But for him the lack of spotlight never meant a lack of purpose.
I took a break because I wasn’t going for interviews and was handling some personal stuff too, he explained. But I was always going back to the studio to record and getting ready for the right moment when everything had settled.
He emphasized that during the quiet seasons of his career he kept creating music with faith that his moment would come. His commitment paid off with the 2022 release of Can I Live a song that remained under the radar until 2024, when it gained traction and eventually secured him the TGMA award in 2025.
Responding to questions about whether he ever felt pressured seeing other artists like KiDi and Kuami Eugene rise to fame despite entering the industry earlier Ayisi shared a powerful perspective:
Now I’ve realized that some people are not made for the fame and all of the other stuff; some people are made for purpose.
For Ayisi, it was less about chasing the spotlight and more about staying true to his craft and his calling. He believes that everyone must discover what they’re truly meant for and remain committed to that path.
There were moments I was worried, he admitted, but I realized I couldn’t compare myself to others only to myself.
This refreshing take on purpose and patience has endeared him even more to fans and fellow creatives who respect his consistency and depth. Ayisi’s story is not only one of talent but of resilience, self-awareness, and belief in divine timing.
As he basks in the recognition he has finally received, Ayisi confidently affirms: This is my time to shine. And with his latest win, it’s clear the industry is now paying attention not just to his sound, but to his story.
