Michael Kpakpo Allotey Unanimously Confirmed as New AMA Boss

Michael Kpakpo Allotey has officially taken the helm as the new Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) following a unanimous confirmation by Assembly Members during a Special General Assembly Meeting held at the Accra City Hall on Tuesday.

The election, conducted by the Electoral Commission of Ghana, saw Mr. Allotey receive all 30 valid votes cast marking a 100 percent endorsement and surpassing the two-thirds majority required by Section 20 of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936). The overwhelming approval reflects strong unity and confidence in his leadership.

The confirmation ceremony was characterized by jubilation, drumming, and a charged atmosphere as Assembly Members, traditional leaders, political party representatives, and residents gathered to witness the occasion.

Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, who supervised the election, commended the Assembly Members for their nonpartisan support.

This is the centre of Greater Accra,” she stated. Let us continue to uphold our constitutional mandate and support the President’s nominee for the good of the city.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Allotey expressed heartfelt gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the trust placed in him.

“I thank the President for entrusting me, a young man from North Kaneshie, with this responsibility. It is an honour I do not take lightly,” he said.

Pledging to build upon the legacy of his predecessors, the new AMA boss declared:

“We are going to reset Accra—starting now. My predecessor has done her part, but now the baton is in my hand. I will seek guidance where needed, but there is no room for failure.

Quoting the popular saying, What God cannot do does not exist, Mr. Allotey signaled his readiness to tackle the capital city’s long-standing challenges.

Nene Drolor Bosso Adamtey I, Council of State representative and Chairman of the Economic and Social Development Committee, also addressed the gathering. He urged Mr. Allotey to lead with “strategic foresight, empathy, and discipline,” stressing the need for innovative solutions in areas like sanitation, urban congestion, youth unemployment, affordable housing, and social equity.

Mr. Allotey comes into office with more than a decade of experience in the private sector. He previously served as the CEO of Our God Is Good Real Estate, where he led several infrastructure projects and job creation initiatives. He also held key positions at KYG Consultancy, EXOLUBE Company Ltd, and DIMD Ghana, where he implemented operational reforms that improved efficiency.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Allotey is a dedicated member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and most recently served as Director of Operations for the Okaikwei South Constituency.

As the newly confirmed Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey faces high expectations from both government and citizens. However, with his blend of youth, experience, and determination, many believe he is well-positioned to lead Accra into a new era of transformation and growth.
