Kennedy Agyapong Donates GH¢1 Million to NPP Amid Party’s Financial Challenges
Businessman and former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has come to the aid of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with a generous donation of GH¢1 million, following reports that the party is struggling financially just four months after exiting government.
Speaking at the NPP headquarters in Accra on Friday, April 25, 2025, the outspoken politician and former NPP flagbearer hopeful expressed disappointment over the party’s inability to pay its workers and effectively run its operations since going into opposition. He stated that he had returned from Madagascar only to learn that the party had not been able to pay staff salaries for four months.
I came from Madagascar, and I heard the news that for four months, we’ve not been able to pay salaries and even money to work. So, I decided I’ll come and give my widow’s mite as a contribution to help run the administration of the party,” Ken Agyapong stated.
He noted that while financial constraints in opposition are a common challenge for political parties in Ghana, it was particularly worrying for a major party like the NPP to be struggling this early.
It is not only unique to the NPP, but every party, when they go into opposition, they face financial or resource challenges… We just came to opposition in about four months, and it’s sad that we cannot run the party. That is not good enough, he added.
Kennedy Agyapong, who is known for his outspoken views and strong support for the NPP, urged the leadership and members of the party to remain united and committed, especially during difficult times in opposition.
His donation is expected to help the party address some of its immediate administrative and operational challenges as it reorganizes for future political activities.
Kennedy Agyapong’s move has been widely praised by party members and supporters, who view it as a sign of true loyalty and dedication to the NPP’s long-term vision.
