Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum Resigns as Asante Kotoko Head Coach Amid Poor Run
Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum has reportedly stepped down as head coach of Asante Kotoko, marking the end of his second tenure with the Ghanaian giants. The decision comes in the wake of the team’s inconsistent performances in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.
Ogum, who returned to the club in July 2023 after guiding Kotoko to the league title during the 2021/22 campaign, has struggled to replicate the same success this time around. Despite reaching the semifinals of the FA Cup, Kotoko’s league form has dipped significantly in recent weeks.
The Porcupine Warriors are winless in their last four league matches, managing just two points out of a possible 12. The stretch includes a 1-1 draw with Heart of Lions, a goalless home draw against Bechem United, a 3-0 defeat to Accra Lions, and a 2-0 loss to Nations FC at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex.
As a result, Kotoko currently sit fourth on the league table with 47 points from 28 matches, having recorded 13 wins, 8 draws, and 7 losses. The team has scored 28 goals and conceded 21, averaging 1.68 points per game.
Sources indicate that the club’s leadership, headed by Board Member Nana Apinkrah Akwasi Awuah and Technical Director Kwesi Appiah, have accepted Ogum’s resignation as part of broader efforts to revive the team’s fortunes before the season concludes.
An official announcement is expected soon regarding Ogum’s exit and the appointment of his replacement.
Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko are preparing for a crucial Matchday 29 encounter against Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Supporters will be hoping for a strong reaction from the team as they aim to finish the season on a high note.
