ECOWAS to Launch Golden Jubilee Celebration in Ghana on April 25, 2025

 

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is set to officially launch its Golden Jubilee celebrations in Accra, Ghana on Friday, April 25, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The high-profile event, which marks 50 years since the founding of the regional body will begin at 10:00 a.m. and is expected to draw dignitaries from across West Africa.

The event will be hosted by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama the President of the Republic of Ghana under whose leadership Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to regional integration and unity.

The Special Guest of Honour will be His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and current Chairman of ECOWAS. President Tinubu is expected to deliver a keynote address that will reflect on ECOWAS’s achievements, challenges and future priorities as it marks five decades of promoting peace, security, economic development and cooperation among member states.

The Golden Jubilee celebration will serve as a platform to reflect on ECOWAS’s journey since its establishment in 1975, highlight milestones in regional cooperation and renew the vision for a more integrated and prosperous West Africa.

As part of the commemoration various side events, cultural displays and diplomatic engagements are expected to take place throughout the day and in the coming weeks.

Ghana’s hosting of this historic launch is a testament to its pivotal role in the affairs of the West African subregion and its dedication to the core values and objectives of ECOWAS.
