Tragic Road Crash at Circle Ringway Causes Chaos, Injuries and Heavy Traffic
A serious road accident on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, brought traffic to a standstill along the busy Circle Ringway stretch in Accra, causing panic and leaving multiple vehicles damaged and several people injured.
According to eyewitness reports a pickup truck with registration number GX-3456-21 which was transporting cement blocks lost control while descending from the Awudome overhead. The vehicle believed to have been speeding veered off its lane and collided with more than ten cars resulting in a scene of destruction and confusion.
Eyewitnesses described the incident as terrifying with some passengers reportedly trapped in their vehicles before being rescued by good Samaritans and emergency personnel. At least two people are said to be in critical condition while others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The injured were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
In a disturbing turn of events the driver of the pickup reportedly fled the scene right after the crash. As of the time of this report he had not been found. The Ghana Police Service arrived shortly after the incident and have since begun preliminary investigations into the matter.
Though authorities have not issued an official statement sources suggest that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the runaway driver. Police are also working to determine whether mechanical failure, overspeeding, or negligence played a role in the crash.
Motorists and commuters have been advised to use alternative routes, as the accident has caused severe traffic congestion in the area. Tow trucks have been deployed to clear the damaged vehicles and restore order on the affected stretch.
The incident has once again sparked discussions about road safety and the importance of stricter enforcement of transport regulations, especially concerning overloaded and speeding vehicles.
