Nigerian Businesswoman Rejects Customer’s Marriage Proposal, Sparks Debate Online
A Nigerian businesswoman Marvellous Emeka has sparked an online discussion after revealing how she rejected a marriage proposal from one of her customers.
Taking to her Facebook page she shared the reason behind her decision and the unexpected reaction from the man. According to Marvellous she turned down his proposal because he still lived in his family house, with no plans of moving out anytime soon.
Marvellous explained that while the man had many good qualities she could not accept living in his current situation. She detailed that he lived on the 6th floor of a six-story building in Awada an area that lacked a borehole and an elevator.
She humorously stated that moving from her comfortable apartment in GRA (Government Reserved Area) to a place where she had to climb numerous stairs daily was not something she was willing to endure.
A whole 6 storey building! No borehole No elevator. Nya, I will leave this my beautiful comfy peaceful apartment in GRA to go and live inside Awada on the top of a 6 storey building so I will climb staircase to early grave.
She emphasized that her decision was not about having unrealistic standards but about maintaining a certain level of comfort and mental well-being.
Marvellous did not expect the man’s reaction after she politely declined his proposal. She revealed that he insulted her multiple times and even went as far as saying she would die single.
He don insult me tire this morning. He said I will die single. This is not about forming standards or anything.”
She further explained that modern women especially Millennials have worked hard to build their independence and will only consider marriage if it offers them something better than their current situation.
Marvellous’ story has generated mixed reactions online with some supporting her stance while others believe she was too harsh.
• Cynthia Max Arinze commented: On point. It’s funny but the truth.
• Ebosie Precious Chibuogu humorously added: Consider using the staircase as your gym.
• Samuel HighlyFavoured Ekiyor shared a different view saying: And what if you’re the push he needs in his life to move on to greater things? Marvey I’m not too comfortable with you bringing such to the public because it will chase and scare other potential suitors.
Marvellous Emeka’s story highlights the evolving standards and expectations of modern women in relationships. While some believe she was right to reject a proposal that did not meet her expectations, others argue that love should be about growth and compromise.
This viral debate serves as a reminder that when it comes to marriage, individual priorities and comfort levels differ and people should be free to make decisions that align with their personal goals.
