Akufo-Addo Directs Ex-Appointees to Face Accountability.
In a recent development, Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), announced that former President Nana Akufo-Addo has instructed his previous appointees to remain accessible for any accountability procedures following the end of his tenure. This directive underscores the NPP’s dedication to transparency and responsibility.
Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Wednesday, February 18, Ahiagbah emphasized the party’s commitment to facing any inquiries head-on, stating, “We [the NPP] have no record of running away; we’ll be here.” This statement comes amidst public demands for accountability as the nation transitions to a new political administration.
Addressing concerns about former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, who was previously declared a fugitive by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), Ahiagbah clarified that Ofori-Atta had informed the Chief of Staff about his medical condition and his decision to seek treatment abroad. He assured that Ofori-Atta remains available for any necessary proceedings.
Ahiagbah also highlighted the NPP’s focus on preparing for the 2028 elections while ensuring that its members are accountable for their actions during their time in office. He revealed that former President Akufo-Addo has explicitly directed his former officials to be present and cooperative during any accountability processes. “There’s an effective commitment right from the former President himself. He has given a directive to ensure that our people are available to do that,” Ahiagbah noted.
Defending the record of the Akufo-Addo administration, Ahiagbah expressed confidence that history will judge their tenure favorably. “We came to do the best we can. And I believe that when the dust settles, Ghana will see what we have done for the eight years,” he stated.
This development reflects the NPP’s proactive approach to addressing concerns of public accountability and transparency, aiming to maintain public trust and uphold democratic principles during the political transition.
