Ghanaian rapper Medikal has set social media abuzz after publicly endorsing President John Dramani Mahama in a viral post that is stirring new conversations around leadership, succession, and national development.

In a bold and heartfelt statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), the “Stubborn Academy” hitmaker urged Ghanaians to appreciate and retain Mahama’s leadership, describing the former and now-returned president as a focused and determined leader.

Make una pray make Mahama no leave power oo, very serious guy!” Medikal posted.

Medikal’s post comes on the heels of President Mahama’s historic landslide victory in the 2024 general elections, marking his return to the presidency with renewed momentum and widespread public support. His leadership style and policy direction have been met with enthusiasm by many, and Medikal’s backing appears to reflect a growing sentiment among sections of the youth and entertainment industry.

But the rapper didn’t stop there.

Medikal went further to suggest a succession plan, naming Mahama’s brother, businessman Ibrahim Mahama, and independent politician Alan Kyerematen—popularly known as Alan Cash—as worthy successors to carry the mantle of leadership once Mahama’s term comes to an end.

“Even if he does finish his term, he should pass it over to Ibrahim Mahama, his brother or Alan Cash. These men have serious ambitions to make Ghana a great nation, trust me,” he added.

The unexpected endorsement and succession proposal have sparked a wave of reactions online. While celebrity endorsements in Ghanaian politics are not entirely new, Medikal’s vocal support for Mahama—and his mention of two influential figures from different spheres of Ghanaian life—adds a new dimension to the ongoing political discourse.

Ibrahim Mahama, a renowned businessman and philanthropist, is known for his industrial initiatives and developmental projects, while Alan Kyerematen, a former Trade Minister and current independent presidential aspirant, is widely respected for his “Great Transformational Plan” aimed at boosting Ghana’s economy.

Medikal’s post is being widely shared, analyzed, and debated, with many applauding him for using his platform to speak on national issues, while others are questioning the intersection of celebrity influence and politics.

As Ghana’s political landscape continues to evolve, Medikal’s remarks have reignited debates about youth engagement, succession planning, and the future of Ghanaian leadership. Whether or not his suggestions gain traction among voters and policymakers, one thing is clear—Medikal has added fresh fire to the nation’s political conversation.
